Portage County Death Index Before 1908

The Portage County Probate Court holds death records from 1867 forward. These are handwritten entries in ledger books that show the name of the deceased, date of death, age, cause of death, and sometimes the birthplace and parents' names. The quality varies from one entry to the next since different clerks recorded them over a span of decades.

Phone lookups may work for simple requests. There is no online index for the pre-1908 records at this time.
